The seventh annual Las Cruces Super Sunday Road Race will award $5000 in prize money to top finishers in the 5-mile and 5K road races. The 5K race is also the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) New Mexico State Championship race.
Sponsored by Las Cruces Running Club (LCRC), the February 3 races will offer $600 prizes for the winners of the men’s and women’s divisions, $300 prizes for second place finishers, $150 for third place, $75 for fourth place and $50 for fifth place.
First place Masters (40 and older) winners will receive $75 and can also receive overall awards.
The races will be held on a challenging closed course with beautiful views in the foothills of the Organ Mountains. Parking and the Start / Finish line is at the south parking lot of Centennial High School.
Entry fees for LCRC races are always reasonable, with pre-registration at $15-20 each for groups of four or more, and $20-30 otherwise, depending on when runners register.
Super Sunday Road Race includes an all-ages 1 Mile Fun Run before the competitive races. Youth 14 and under can run free in all races. Paid entrants receive choice of t-shirt or knit cap plus race swag.
The fun run starts at 8:40 am, and the 5K and 5-mile races start at 9am. Only paid entrants are eligible for prize money.
Details and registration are at https://runsignup.com/SSRRsignup or lascrucesrunningclub.com.
In addition to the prize money, RRCA State Champion medals will be presented to male and female 5K winners in Overall, Masters (40 and over), Grand Masters (50 and over) and Senior Grand Masters (60 and over) divisions.
Groups and individuals are encouraged to form and join teams for the race, and a prize will be awarded to the largest team.
Domino’s is sponsoring a free post-race pizza party and Jason’s Deli will provide water and fruit. Additional sponsor opportunities are available with Las Cruces Running Club.
Since 1958, RRCA has sponsored state, regional and national championship races at a variety of distances, and has promoted recreational and competitive running nationwide. Las Cruces Running Club was formed in 2012 and now produces three annual races (Super Sunday Road Race, Electric 5K, The Official Las Cruces Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot), utilizing race proceeds to produce the LCRC Summer Youth Running Program. The summer program is free to elementary and mid-school youth, all through club volunteer efforts. Interested people are invited to join the LCRC, and sponsor or volunteer at events.
